  3. If you select a Tax-Free Investment, you can invest up to R33 000 each year, until your total investment reaches R500 000 which is your lifetime limit. If you go over these limits you will be taxed at 40% of the extra amount by SARS. You can withdraw money from your portfolio at any time, but remember that the amount you withdraw remains part of your maximum lifetime investment amount and cannot be reinvested at a later stage. The Effective Annual Cost (EAC) is a measure which has been introduced to allow you to compare the charges you incur and their impact on investment returns when you invest in different Financial Products. It is expressed as an annualised percentage. The EAC is made up of four components, which are added together, as shown in the table below.
